There are various methods of increasing or decreasing the credits per dinosaur. When the player kills or tranquilizes a dinosaur, he receives credits that are dependent on the type of dinosaur and on his selected equipment usage. For example, killing a dinosaur that was not selected in the menu will give only half of that dinosaur’s total available credits. Tranquilizing rather than killing a dinosaur will increase the player’s credits per hunt by 25 percent. Hunting accessories such as camouflage and a dinosaur-detecting radar can be used during hunting, but will deduct points if utilized.

First time hunters can use the Observation Mode to familiarize themselves with dinosaur behavior and different terrain. Each dinosaur will react to a hunter differently depending on its nature.

Some are more adept at detecting the player’s scent, while others may see him in the distance, or hear his footsteps. Once a dinosaur takes note of the player, a number of reactions can happen. Herbivores may run away or attack the player if they feel cornered.

Carnivores may attack the player head on, or gather in an organized pack to flank the player and take him out. Regardless of which dinosaur the player is hunting, there are others that do not appear on the radar that can launch a surprise attack. Harmless, ambient animals such as appear on every hunt but cannot be selected from the main hunting menu.

They are worth zero points and can be killed with a single shot, excluding the Brachiosaurus , which cannot be killed. According to GameRankings , Carnivores 2 has a rating of Some might consider this a realistic part of hunting, but it’s also a realistic part of boredom. A player who doesn’t use the radar to help find prey is in for some very long afternoons.

A new hunter is given credits. The player uses credits to select a hunting area, a dinosaur to hunt and a weapon to use. Levels include a forest, a jungle and a swamp; weapons include a pistol, a shotgun, a crossbow, and a sniper rifle. Each dinosaur, area, and weapon has its own cost; the player’s remaining credits determine what the player can and cannot bring on the hunt.

The dinosaurs that are available to hunt, from the lowest to the highest price, are the Parasaurolophus, Ankylosaurus, Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, Chasmosaurus, Velociraptor, Spinosaurus, Ceratosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus rex. When the player chooses an item from the menu, other selections may become unavailable depending on the amount of remaining credits. Available selections are highlighted in blue, selected items are yellow and unavailable items are gray.

The player can easily have several dinosaurs to hunt, with several weapons selected at the same time as he advances in his hunting skills. As the player hunts the selected dinosaurs, each successful kill will result in a number of credits added to the player’s account.

The player can kill more than one dinosaur per hunting expedition, allowing him to earn enough credits to move into more advanced areas with more expensive weapons and more dangerous dinosaurs. However, if the player is killed by a dinosaur, all credits accumulated on the specific hunt are forfeited.

The player must be evacuated by DinoHunt and survive the hunt to keep the credits he earned. There are various methods of increasing or decreasing the credits per dinosaur. Vengar Fjords. Lush pockets of vegetation, and thousands of inlets cover this area. This beautiful but treacherous piece of land includes an ancient volcano. Be careful when wandering the virtual maze of water and mountains created by glaciers millions of years ago.

Manya Jungle. Ringed with snow-capped mountains, this hunting area is rumored to be a nesting ground for some of the larger dinosaurs. Muddy marshes to the southwest, and a long abandoned “Dinosaur Wall” make this one of the most mysterious areas on the tour.

Mount Ravan. This island, broken by waterways and mountains is the most difficult by far. The frozen peaks of Mt. Ravan overlook a thick tropical forest that may quickly become a deadly maze where hidden danger abounds. Be careful of the active lavaflow to the south as well.

This weapon has fast firing rate, but its accuracy declines with distance. It is very good damage for close combat, but less effective for distant targets. The pistol will scare plant eaters, but the noise will alert dangerous carnivores.

This is a very powerful weapon that uses buck-shot bullets as an ammunition. The grouping of shots decreases on farther distances. Shooting from this weapon requires less precise aiming due to its grouping of shots.

DB Shotgun. This weapon is same as shotgun, but can make two shots almost simultaneously. However, it makes a lot of noise, so it will scare all plant eaters and some small carnivores, causing them to run away. This weapon has two target areas, called aiming pins. The top pin is sighted in for 40 meters, and the bottom pin is sighted for 80 meters.

It is relatively silent, and can be shot several times without alerting dinosaurs. The target area for this weapon is the center of the sighting circle. Although powerful, aim your shot well. The shotgun will scare plant eaters, causing them to scatter, but the noise will alert dangerous carnivores. Sniper rifle. This weapon is very accurate, and will shoot exactly where the crosshairs are placed. Its range goes as far as the binoculars, but is narrow. This is not a weapon for a charging meat eater, but fantastic for distance shots.

There are no points deducted for the use of the binoculars in the hunt. Press the “B” key default to use the binoculars and then again, to put them away. With this item, you can see just outside of your normal viewable range, and centering the crosshairs on a dinosaur will show you the animal’s size. The map allows you to pinpoint your location on any island. There are no points deducted from your score for using it. Press the TAB key default to call the map into view, and press it again, to remove.

The map is used with the radar, as stated above to point out locations of the dinosaurs. Dinosaur Call. This item is used to use the dinosaur’s native calls, to attract the animals. There are no points deducted from your score for using the Dinosaur Call.

Press the “ALT” key default to use the call. The call, when overused, can scare plant eaters, or attract meat eaters to your location, so be careful.

Carnivores 2 by Wizard Works invites you to “enter the realm of prehistoric reality and take on the quest for survival. It’s too easy to go on about how terrible most hunting games are.

Suffice it to say that such games exist and thrive because they reconstruct a sport whose uniquely violent rules are appealing to a lot of people. These gamers do not specifically want to kill deer; they simply want to experience the hunt. Recognizing this, Russian developer Action Forms created Carnivores, which gave you the hunter’s tools of the trade, only you’d hunt dinosaurs instead of deer. Suddenly the ethical argument was no longer relevant – dinosaurs are already dead – and what was left was a great-looking little first-person game that cleverly simulated what it might be like to take on a triceratops with a shotgun.

One good idea made way for another, and less than a year later, Carnivores 2 was published. It’s essentially identical to the original, but its streamlined gameplay and expanded menagerie make it just as enjoyable.

True to its title, this sequel emphasizes dinosaurs of the more voracious variety. Whereas only three dinosaurs in the first game were meat eaters, Carnivores 2 adds the camel-like spinosaurus and the horned ceratosaurus to the fray, which make for a fine assortment of dangerous game alongside the velociraptor, allosaurus, and tyrannosaurus. There are new plant eaters as well, including the armored anklyosaurus.

Some of these, such as the towering brachiosaurus, are present to provide atmosphere rather than sport. As in the first Carnivores, everything that lives and breathes in Carnivores 2 looks terrific. All the dinosaurs are carefully detailed and almost disturbingly lifelike as they graze and go about their dinosaur business. They leave trails of blood if you shoot and wound them, and if you take them out with tranquilizers, you can see them heaving in slumber. These are truly some of the best-looking dinosaurs ever rendered onscreen.

They also sound convincing, and while you can’t know what a dinosaur actually sounds like, Carnivores 2 poses a pretty good hypothesis. The nine species you hunt all have their own distinctive calls, and the larger ones sound downright scary.

Fortunately, you’ve got a pretty scary arsenal with which to take these things down. From the conventional 9mm pistol on up to the long-range sniper rifle, these six guns are all functionally different and tactically interesting. All the weapons from the first game are back, and aside from the pistol, the only other addition is a mean double-barreled shotgun that pays homage to the superweapon of the sequel to Doom, id Software’s classic.

The hunting tools from the first game are back, including camouflage, cover scent, and even a tracking device that shows dinosaurs on your map. Using these tools detracts from the points you earn with each kill, while using tranquilizers boosts your totals but won’t put that tyrannosaurus in your trophy room. You want to earn points because everything you take into the field costs a certain amount. It’s like the dinosaur hunter’s credit rating; at first you’ll only be able to go against piddling plant eaters with a pistol, but soon you’ll be able to take on larger dinosaurs with more appropriate weaponry.

The first Carnivores forced you to hunt one type of dinosaur at a time with one type of weapon at a time, but Carnivores 2 lifts this restriction and lets you take on as many types of dinos with as many types of weapons as you can afford. This adds a fresh change of pace to gameplay that’s otherwise identical to the original, which involves locating, stealthily approaching, and then dispatching the target with a well-aimed shot to its weak spot.

As in the first game, dinosaurs respond to you in a fairly realistic fashion and can hear, smell, or see you if you aren’t careful. The peaceful ones will then flee, while the carnivores will swoop toward you and turn you into lunch. Or breakfast or dinner if applicable; not only does Carnivores 2 present more and bigger environments than its predecessor, but it lets you choose what time of day you want to hunt: dawn, day, or night.

Night missions are seen through the distinctive green tint of vision-enhancement goggles, whereas fog and stark sunlight permeate hunts that take place early in the morning. The effects look great, and the terrain still looks realistic and beautiful. This 3D engine continues to hold up with the best of them. Carnivores 2 is a great diversion just like its ancestor. You can play for a few minutes or, just as easily, a few hours, because each hunt can last for as long as you like, and the game provides an extensive and variable challenge.

Your style of play will change drastically depending on whether you’re hunting a meat eater or a plant eater, and the game is even more dynamic than the first now that you can throw everything into the mix at once. Those who played the original Carnivores ought to expect more of the same at the same low price , while those who didn’t, but who either like dinosaurs or the idea of shooting them, ought to take this second chance without hesitation.

Luckily for a game like this it is easy to go in and change basic coding so you can play the game at the difficulty or experience that you choose.

Retired and playing this game every day. Love it. I loved this game but unfortunately the computer that has the capability to play them crashed so now im left with just my windows 8 computer which cant play them. This is the second one I got and just as good as the first and now my niece can play it at home without me. One person found this helpful. Works great on my old windows computer. You need to delete the brachiosaurus from the huntdat folder, other wise the game won’t work.

Also the newer versions of computers do not like to download the directX system, so above operating system will not work. My father liked playing it, arrived safely.
