There are some grammatical errors where at times you have to reread the sentence to understand the point the author is trying to make but overall this is not that bad and you can generally figure out the meaning.

The very frustrating part is that the examples are inconsistent. In some cases there are very clear instructions on how to do a specific part in the ‘Time for Action’ examples and in other cases it just instructs you to do something, without any direction, so the reader is stuck trying to figure out what to do.

At times I am left frustrated and I have to walk away and come back to it. In other cases it appears the author just took for granted that after you have done something one time way back in the beginning of the book you will remember it pages later. It doesn’t necessarily have to be spelled out but at least having a reference to the page where the previous action took place would be nice.

This book is also very syntax driven. I understand this is a beginner’s book but I just expected more of an explanation on why AND how things are done. I understand this is a beginner’s book but I just expected more of an explanation on why AND how things are done. The first part of the book talks about building the Data Warehouse but it doesn’t explain in very much detail about how the dimension and fact tables were constructed, what was the methodology behind it and why they were designed the way they were.

To me that is important information to understand and this book just gives you a link to an already created data warehouse that you download and use. To me it would have been MUCH more helpful to guide the reader through the actual creation of the data warehouse so that a clear understanding of why the dimension and fact tables were created and the path to get to that point.

I would not recommend this book for someone who is trying to understand the concepts of creating a data warehouse. As a book about how to perform actions once it is created it is ok for that, but not great. As others mentioned, it feels like a walkthrough that doesn’t include a lot of detail. The author also seems to take it for granted that you have installed both MDX and Tabular editions of SSAS they’re mutually exclusive on a server and jumps from one to the other early in the book.

However, more frustrating is that seems like nobody actually walked through the exercises when the book was complete. However, he neglects to tell you that you need to process things on the server before any data will appear. When Creating your SSIS package, there is a typo in the database name, causing you to use the wrong name in one place.

Book is fine with lot of good information but it’s a little bit hard to read because of too frequent “What just happened?

Very annoying especially if you have Kindle edition. One person found this helpful. This is not a good beginners guide. It does not explain why all these steps are being done. I tried the sample book before purchasing; it read with promise. However, the sample really oversells it. I don’t recommend this book. I agree about the grammar errors but overall a great book if your starting out and trying to understand Business Intelligence.

The title Says but many of the samples are sql Well-written, but note that it piggybacks on the publicly available Microsoft tutorial. This book really impressed me. Thank you for writing this.
