The avionics are realistic as well, so much so that the sim gives you a simplified mode to use while getting up to speed. The graphics, especially terrain, are a little dated, but the game is about the flying not the peripheral scenery.

The sim allows the choice of multiple scenarios in two theaters of operation, the Balkans and Korea. In addtion, the sim randomizes the action in each so that if you play a scenario and then start it again you will not experience exactly the same events, threats, missions, etc. The user is provided with two flight models in addtion to the two avionics models.

I recommend using the simplified model until you get the feel of the aircraft. The realistic model is demanding and will lead to frustration for novice pilots especially lots of crashes on landing. There are options on a number of other game parameters that allow the user to dial up the challenge incrementally as proficiency is gained.

In addition to graphics issues, the radio chatter sounds stiff and flat. It sounds very much like a bored voice actor reading a script, rather than a pilot in a stressful situation pumped full of adrenalin. Also, commands to wingmen sometimes go ignored. Sim stability is excellent and users will find few freezes or crashes. In conclusion, If you’re looking for a realistic simmulation for flying a combat jet this is the one for you.
