Hi, I just created my first build and am having some major issues. I have tried everything I can think of and am at my wit’s end. I am starting to think it is either windows 10, the motherboard, or the processor. I have already reinstalled windows 10 multiple times however. I am having trouble with my computer randomly freezing or going to a black screen with my monitor saying there is no connection.

The freezing was happening when I had my graphics card in and was completely random. It could freeze when the pc was just idling, browsing the web, or during a game. I took the graphics card out and am using the integrated graphics on the processor now. However, now the computer will randomly go to a black screen, saying that there is no connection to the pc. This forces me to do a hard reset in order for it to work again.

I thought it might be the display port cable so I switched to an hdmi, but it does the same thing except, instead of going to a black screen the monitor will flash a bunch of different colors and is frozen on whatever the screen was on. I thought the problem was fixed after taking the graphics card out, but after a day it started up again. The computer seems to go to the black screen when the pc is idling for at least 10 minutes everytime, but it will still do it randomly when using the pc.

My temps for everything are also running fine. My graphics card was at 36C when idling and my processor sits at about 21C.

When I look at the windows event viewer, the only error that is right before the critical error of my hard reset is this Event 56, Application Popup error. I am not sure if that is what is causing it but it is there every time. Anyone know what that error is for? I have no clue what to do. I have checked my ram for errors and there were none, and when I stress test the processor it doesn’t seem to have any problems. I am starting to think it is the motherboard that is bad.

I have been trying to fix this for weeks. I have checked to make sure that the PC is set to never sleep and to never turn the screen off. I have also messed with the advanced power options in windows to make sure that nothing turns the screen off. However, it is still crashing. I have, for the mean time found that keeping the space bar pressed down makes sure the computer does not idle and therefore will not cause it to crash.

I have absolutely no clue what would cause this though To check if it generates the event 56 in event viewer. You may follow the below suggestions until you reply to us with the required information and check if it helps.

We are glad to assist you. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Hi, thanks for replying. No it is not connected to a domain, just my home network. It was doing it on a clean install when I did not have any programs installed yet. I have reinstalled windows multiple times, yet it still does it.

I have already tried the Troulbeshoot black screen problems provided by your link, did not help. I have also already run the troubleshooter and it found no problems.

The computer does not seem to do it when working in safe mode though. I am thinking it is a driver problem of some sort with Windows I have seen others are having the same problem with the new Skylake chip sets. Screen is set to Never turn off and Sleep is set to Never. This issue happens irregardless of the settings. I say “tries” because the monitor goes black with a brief message saying it’s going into sleep mode.

But the computer keeps running until it crashes, which takes awhile close to a minute or more , or I hit the reset button. At which point the computer restarts like nothing happened! Oddly though it will sit for hours if left on. This issue only happens when I’m in the middle of using it! If I do put this computer to sleep, it has a habit of waking up with out any input!

I’ve put it to sleep only to come home to an awake computer, having no idea how long it’s been on and wasting electricity! I haven’t found any viruses and all drivers are up to date. I do not know if this is Windows 10 related but it happened after I upgraded from Windows 7 to It never happened before that! The only other culprits I can think of are power supply or GPU going bad.

I know it’s about time for a new computer but if this is a Windows 10 issue then I’m not in a rush to spend money only to have this issue continue.

I can play online for over an hour with no prbblem then stop for a bit then black again. This site in other languages x.
